Seizures can be the result of many things:
- Nutrition Deficiencies – lack of calcium, and low blood sugar are both known causes to trigger seizures. Signs of low calcium are white teeth, hunched shoulders. Low blood sugar signs are trembling and shaking.
- Heat stroke – when a chinchilla over heats, it will often seizure, attempt to cool the chin using the methods described in the heat stroke section
- Injury – sometimes if a chin takes a fall and receives a head injury, it will cause the animal to seizure. This only requires veterinary care if the animal appears to have broken something.
- Poisoning – if a chin ingest toxic material it will often begin to seizure. Receive medical attention for any chin you think has been poisoned.
- Epileptic – some seizures are thought to be due to epilepsy, and can be hereditary. Therefore if you have a chin experiencing seizures, it is unwise to keep them in a breeding program. |
