Giardia is an internal parasite usually found in low numbers in the GI tract. However, stress, contaminated water and unsanitary living environments can result in an influx of the number of parasites.

Signs of Giardia:

- soft stool
- increased appetite
- lack of energy

If you suspect your chinchilla has giardia, you should receive a fecal test by your vet to confirm this, and if giardia is present, follow the treatment plan by your vet. Also in the future, take extra precaution in providing that chin with an extra clean environment
