Heart Murmurs are found in up to 30% of chinchillas, and is when one of the valves is failing, and the heart can not function properly. Often times kits will have murmurs, and then outgrow them. If you find an adult chin to have a heart murmur, immediately remove the chin from breeding. Chinchillas with heart murmurs can still live long healthy lives. To help the chin live a long life, provide little to no treats and provide a wheel for exercise, which can help strengthen the heart. Also if the chin in question is obese, getting rid of any extra weight will take stress off the heart.
