   The Senses

Chinchillas rely on many of their senses, the two they use the most is sight and sound. Since chinchillas are prey animals, any quick movement or loud sound will startle them. Its also the reason why chins shouldn't be kept in a place where they can hear birds, as that can cause them stress since birds are their natural predators in the wild.

Since their vision is not the greatest, chinchillas will memorize surroundings. That is why if you move something in your chin play room, don't be surprised if they run into it.

While chinchillas are very agile, they are often very clumsy at times. This is why you shouldn't have too high of play things for them to climb on, as a too high fall could easily kill them. I do not recommend anything taller than 4-6 feet.
