Chinchillas are great natural jumpers. One of the females in breeding here, can jump three feet straight into the air over a playpen. So its important to take all precautions to keep your chin safe, and to keep your stuff safe. Realize that they can jump to most window sills, chairs, couches, toilets, baths, and are very resourceful about problem solving on how to get to even higher up things.
